Race Planner & Results Officer, Gavin Earons

Gavin Earons

Gavin Earons is the Route Planner and Results Officer for Heb 2008. He was also the creator of the widely acclaimed Route 2007, though he was not able to be present at the event because he was competing in the Mountain Bike events at the World Island Games in Rhodes.

Gavin is a Senior Analyst with CNES, the local authority here on Lewis, and has lived on Lewis for over 22 years – during that time he has run or mountain biked nearly every inch of the whole island chain!

Gavin captained team Sula Sgeir in 11 of the adventure races there have been on these islands (the Heb and its predecessor event). His team won the the race in 1998, won the Veteran category 5 times and finishing as the first local team 10 times! Two of these local team wins earned the prize of free entry into the Pindos Crossing adventure race held in the central mountains of Greece - where they finished in 2nd place in 2000 and 9th place in 2001. Diaries of most of these races can be found on at Team Sula Sgeir.

As a mountain biker, in 2007 Gavin finished third in his age group at the Scottish Championships and was third in the Scottish MTB XC Series (2nd in 2006). He has also been a member of teams which have won gold medals for orienteering and hockey at Scottish National level.

Gavin has had an input into the mountain biking route choices for a number of Heb races.
