Route Publication
18 June 2008 - We've published the routes for the 2008 race!
Hi Folks,
Don’t suppose any of you will read this – you’ll all be too busy looking at your spreadsheets and plotting the route!
So I’ll keep this short and sweet!
- First things first – make sure you have the correct route description for your event!!!
- There is one tab for each day in the spreadsheet.
- The Challenge route is the complete route – others may have apparently missing checkpoints or legs – so some gaps in sequence should be expected for fours and pairs.
- “Leg” column is just an identifier for the different timed sections and has no real significance.
- “Type” column is normally “Team” which means the team can use any method within the rules to cover the leg. “Kayak”, “Bike” or “MTB” means the specified method must be used for the leg (some off-road sections would be quicker to run but if they are tagged “MTB” you must cover the whole leg with a bike).
- “GR” is a six figure OS Grid Reference.
- “Mar” indicates whether the checkpoint is likely to have a marshal.
- “No” (not applicable to pairs routes) indicates number of team members who must complete the leg – failure to do so will incur time penalties and exclusion from the list of those completing the challenge.
- “Essential Information” – please read carefully as it is usually what it says on the tin “essential”! This type of information will be elaborated on at team briefings but ignore it at your peril.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification or to point out errors – its better to get these things sorted out now than during the race.
Where points raised are generic, I will arrange for all teams to be informed of the answers but I will try not to give too much away – team logistics and route planning are all part of the challenge.
