New Look Heb 2009
04 March 2009 - HEB 2009 and the all-NEW SKYE taster: the low-down you’re all waiting for!
Here’s more detail of what we’re planning for Heb 2009, so that you can all get going on your own plans to come and join us, either for two-and-a-bit days of pairs racing on Skye, or for the traditional Heb whole week with a brand new twist!
Possibilities for a whole week of AR excitement, much of it on previously un-raced terrain –or, if you’re pushed for time, just two-and-a-bit days on Skye with no Calmac ferries to worry about. This latter is for pairs only. Those doing the whole week – pairs, teams of four (no kayaker) and teams of five can still do Skye plus Lewis and Harris six days of quality, great-value racing.
The plan: on Skye, Cuillins red and black and at least one Munro…maybe more! We’re talking running here, NOT ropework.
Names and places to get your pulse-rate up: Glen Sligachan; Loch Coruisk; Bla Bheinn; Old Man of Storr; The Quiraing and what Route Planner Gav is calling “the far reaches of Skye”! His slogan this year, for the taster is: “there’s more to Skye than the Cuillin!” That means you could find yourself in delightful bits of Skye you never knew existed!
Over to Harris on the Tues morning ferry (Uig-Tarbert), if you’re ‘going all the way’ with us, for the ‘high hills of the Clisham horseshoe’; the remote islands of Scarp and Taransay; Uig on Lewis and its shimmering silver beaches…a final night on Scalpay where we always wanted to Ceilidh and where they REALLY know how to Ceilidh…
So day-end stops are as follows: Sat overlooking the Skye bridge based in Kyleakin hall; Sun camping in Sligachan; Monday night, north end of Skye after the Trotternish peninsula with its continuous, dramatic ridge offering dramatic vistas…unless you are bidding farewell to us and going home at the end of Monday’s racing…
If you’re ‘going all the way’ it is Tues night in Tarbert; Wed and Thursday Uig on Lewis (venue t.b.c.); Friday one of our top favourite community halls, at Scalpay –very convenient for the Sat ferry back to Skye if you wish to return that way (but Stornoway is less than an hour’s drive away, for the ferry to Ullapool and home down the A9).
We need your entries in a.s.a.p please! The closing date for all entries is Sat May 23: we currently have NO sponsorship of any kind (all offers gratefully received –we’d love to have some, please!) so, in the unlikely even of insufficient entry to cover the cost of the race we’d have to cancel then. Race entry fees would then be returned.
Please help us to keep Scotland’s best-loved fixed venue AR going by getting your entries in as soon as possible. All enquiries to Stephanie@hebrideanchallenge.com
tel 01851 860281 (eve and w/e). We’re counting on you!!!
